A philosophical and empirical exploration of a way of living in yogatattwopanishad

The Yogatattvopanishad (YTU) is a less explored yet significant text in the yogic tradition. Though it shares thematic content with other classical Hatha Yoga texts, its concise presentation of yogic practices makes it a valuable source of foundational practices and worth revisiting. This review explores the key teachings of the YTU and examines their relevance today by comparing them with other yogic texts and connecting them with findings from modern scientific studies. The databases, such as Google Scholar and PubMed, were searched to collect the information from empirical studies. Internet archives were scoured to get the original texts of the Yoga Upanishad. This review paper referred to the textbooks from the library to extract the data from original sources. The paper brings together traditional textual insights and current scientific research. It focuses on the ethical principles, postures, breathing techniques, and meditative practices mentioned in the YTU, and reviews empirical studies that help us understand their effects on the human body and mind. Many empirical studies assert the benefits of most of the practices that are mentioned in YTU, such as improved breathing, focus, emotional balance, and nervous system regulation. However, the lack of detailed procedural guidance may limit its practical use on its own. Its teachings continue to hold value, but to bring them into modern practice, there’s a need for more research that integrates ancient philosophy with modern science.
