Introduction & Background: Ayurveda being the science of life found its base in Shatdarshanas for its fundamental aspects. Yoga philosophy being one among the Shatdarshanas also influences Ayurveda in various ways. Until and unless a person cannot overcome the afflictions of Chitta (mind) and not get control over his Buddhi (intellect), he cannot get Tatva Gnana (knowledge of supremacy), this is the reason Yoga Darshana advocates Ashtanga Yoga. This concept was given by Maharshi Patanjali. Yama is one among the Ashtanga Yoga which is helpful in the relaxation of our body and mind. Yama refers to Samyama or to hold together, restrain. It includes Ahimsa, Satya, Asteya,Brahmacharya and Aparigraha.
Aim & Objective: ToCompare and analyze the Yama of Ashtanga Yoga in Ayurveda.
Methods &Methodology: Data is collected from various Ayurvedic and Yoga Darshana literatureand it iscompared and analyzed in Ayurveda.
Discussion & Conclusion: The comparative analysis of Yama in Ayurveda can be done in various contexts in the form of Sadvrutta, Achara Rasayana, Dinacharya, Chikitsa sutra, and so on. For example- the concept of Ahimsa incorporated under Dashavidha papa karma of Ayurveda, the concept of Satya is mentioned while describing the four-fold qualities of patients in Ayurveda. Asteya can be incorporated under the category of Dharaneeya vega in Ayurveda. The concept of Brahmacharya is considered as Ayushya in the context of Agrya. Aparigraha is considered a quality to assess the Hitayu. In this way, the factors explained by Maharshi Patanjali in Yama are found in Ayurveda under various headings. It will be useful to understand the concepts of Yoga Darshana and adopt the various concepts in Ayurveda.
