Utility of nyaya in diagnosis and treatment of disease

The term ‘Nyaya’ refers to a maxim or system of logic and reasoning that helps in understanding and interpreting philosophical and medical ideas. Ancient people in the colloquial language used simple metaphors which in later days were technically termed as Nyaya. Nyayas were used as ancient reasonable tools to express ancient scientific principles which were widely accepted. The commentators of Ayurveda classics ensure that the knowledge is not only transmitted accurately but also understood deeply by using nyayas, thus preserving the integrity and richness of Ayurvedic wisdom. The concept of Nyaya plays a crucial role in the context of diagnosis and treatment. Nyayas help in diagnosing diseases by analyzing symptoms and their causes through logical reasoning likewise assist in developing a treatment plan by applying principles and matching treatments to the specific needs of the patient. A few such examples are: chatrinogachnati Nyaya, ghunakshara Nyaya, shrunga grahika Nyaya and gobalivardha Nyaya.
