Nature of Anumāna and Anumiti as discussed in Bhāṣāratna of Kaņāda Tarkavāgiīśa
Dr. Devalina Saikia
The present paper aims to discuss the nature of anumŒna i.e. inference and the process of acquiring anumiti i.e. inferential cognition. As an indirect means of internalizing the external world, inference shares a good position in the epistemological sphere. In the cognitive episode, anum Œna comes after pratyak·a. It is logical to discuss anumŒna after pratyak·a in the sense that there is a cause-and-effect relationship between the two1.
