Sense training in the philosophy of Sri Aurobindo and sense control in Vedic knowledge: A comparative perspective
Brajednra Kumar
This
paper explores the concepts of indriya-nigraha (sense control)
and sense training in two spiritual traditions: the ancient
Vedic knowledge system and the integral philosophy of Sri Aurobindo. Both
traditions recognize the senses as essential tools in the path of
self-realization but warn against their unregulated indulgence. The paper aims
to compare the methodologies, purposes, and philosophical underpinnings of
sense control in the Vedas and the disciplined transformation of the senses in
Sri Aurobindo's Integral Yoga.
